Mary Ellen Henderon Middle School Residency 2025
"Starry Starry Day"
This pulsing, tessellating design of house-shaped tiles was created in the spring of 2025 through the Falls Church Education Foundation Artist-in-Residence program. Artist Marc Robarge led ceramic workshops in which students in grades 6-8, as well as staff members, made and painted house tiles to represent themselves—totaling more than 680 houses! The theme of evolving identity is a key concept in the IB curriculum and speaks to the students’ expanding sense of self. The houses are arranged in sunny, spiraling discs that intersect in a variety of ways, symbolizing peer relationships and group dynamics. Each house is an affirmation of the person who made it, our connection to one another, our community, and the natural world.
